"With you, I almost heard Italy
felt its fierce rhythm
the heat radiating from the walls
and I became thirsty.
You knew how to quench it."
ML
This Italian-inspired house once belonged to Berner, and its historical charm is still palpable. The current owner purchased the property with the intention of renovating it into their dream home, a place that feels like a slice of Italy in the picturesque coastal scenery of Kulosaari, Helsinki.
The construction process has spanned several years, involving both interior and exterior renovations.
The pergola-lined pathway leading to the shore does not require a roof, yet it creates a striking visual journey toward the boat dock and waterfront lounge area. The imposing stone wall has been partially restored, with a significant portion rebuilt from scratch. The section facing the garden is completely new. At 20 cm thick, the wall leaves a very narrow interior space, as the neighboring property line begins immediately beyond the garden fence.
From the shoreline, one can see the Kruunuvuori Bridge in the distance, while closer views include familiar resting spots for passing boaters.
