"We never lacked courage,
nor strong trust,
nor love to create life
in a world that longed for lasting joy."

This semi-detached house in the heart of Tahkovuori underwent a complete yard renovation during the summer. The owners' vacation home is in frequent use year-round, while the other half is rented out. The garden was designed as a whole, yet the backyard maintains privacy through thoughtful placement of structures. A discreet door was integrated into the terrace partition fence to allow controlled access.
A large portion of the backyard consists of an open terrace made of Accoya wood, ensuring both durability and elegance.
The functional areas of the garden are compact, with all materials carefully selected for longevity and environmental sustainability. The retaining wall stones were sourced from Ikikivi in Nilsiä, ensuring local craftsmanship. The pedestrian walkways are covered with Paljakan Bronze slate stone and granite cobblestones, while the stair landings feature Pohjolan Loimu granite nubs for an elegant, non-slip finish.
The metal fences were custom-colored according to the house’s architectural palette, using the RAL color chart for a harmonious look.
The floating benches at the firepit were secured to the rear structures, creating a visually striking effect. The evening lighting beneath the benches enhances their appearance, turning them into a stunning focal point at night.
The firepit and log bench were custom-designed and handcrafted in Finland by Artlandia Meos n’ Hannus. Their tailored design service ensures that each piece is uniquely crafted to suit its surroundings.
