and nature around me spoke a language
more familiar than any other,
and I let it move me."

Summary: The private garden built along the Iijoki River seamlessly integrates modern house architecture, carefully selected plants, and custom-designed garden structures.
The residents primarily wanted to clarify and redesign the backyard. Over the years, the existing stone paving had sunk, causing stormwater runoff to flow toward the buildings. They also wished for plenty of comfortable outdoor spaces for spending summer days with family and friends.
With such a large and striking house, the garden design needed to complement its form and proportions. The goal was a modern and unique outdoor space that aligned with the Scandinavian style of the house.
The choice of wood materials was influenced by environmental values. Respecting the surrounding nature was a key principle in the design. Ensuring that the river view became an integral part of the garden was a priority. Plant selections emphasized autumn colors and winter aesthetics.
A glass garden house serves as both a relaxation space and a greenhouse. In front of it, a water feature was created, with stepping stones emerging from the water for a playful effect.
One part of the glass house was left as an open space, featuring a glass roof but no walls.
The overall atmosphere is fresh, Scandinavian, stylish, yet deeply connected to nature.
